My daughter Lucie treated my grandson Arthur and me to a meal and great seats at the Lyceum Theatre to see the wonderful musical The Lion King.
It was Arthur’s sixth birthday and my Christmas presents.
Directed by Julie Taymor, this captivating reimagining of the beloved Disney animated feature won 6 Tony awards when it premiered on Broadway in 1997.
After that success, the show opened in London on October 19, 1999 and it has been running at the Lyceium ever since.
What a magnificent show. Beautifully conceived and presented with such brilliance and economy. You have to be there to enjoy it fully.
During the moving opening number, all the animals come on stage, many streaming through the auditorium including birds, rhinos and an elephant – to Arthur’s excited delight!
I just have one thing to say – SEE IT!
