The Mediterranean Diet

I don’t do “diets” – I can’t bear others telling me what to do, especially “don’t do”. It doesn’t sit well. So the Meditterean Diet is NOT actually a “diet”, it’s a lifestyle change.

It’s not about what you can’t eat but more about what you can eat – and the good news it that it’s all delicious.

The Mediterranean diet is based on the traditional foods that people used to eat in countries like Italy and Greece back in the year 1960. Researchers noted that these people were exceptionally healthy compared to the rest of us and had a low risk of many killer diseases. Numerous studies have now shown that the Mediterranean diet can cause weight loss and help prevent heart attacks, strokes, type 2 diabetes and, most important of all, premature death. Sounds good to me.

So what are the essentials of the diet?

It’s all well described in what is known as The Mediterranean Diet Pyramid:

All my life, I’ve loved olives and fresh fruit and vegetables, so this diet was made for me. 🙂
