Pontius Pilate was was the fifth prefect of the Roman province of Judaea, serving under Emperor Tiberius.

As such, he should look impressive.

I originally thought of him in Roman General’s uniform but, firstly, he wasn’t a general and, secondly, I want to give him a softer image as in the Gospels. Contrary to some Christian thought, the Romans were not ‘Nazis’ and shouldn’t be protrayed as such. While very powerful, Pilate was rather weak, allowing the people dictate to him what he should do with Jesus. This should be relected in his costume.
